Natural food market gains ground in Canada
The natural food market has been growing in many countries. In Canada, the industry has also gained ground.
The Canadian consumer is aware of food labels and does not put any type of product in the cart. Whether it is because of an allergy to certain ingredients, or because they want to keep a healthy diet, the population’s concern with what they put on the table has made Canada rethink the items it manufactures and imports.
Supermarkets have made room for products made from natural ingredients and many entities in defense of natural and organic food have gained more space, such as Natural Products Canada (NPC) and the Natural Health Product Research Society of Canada (NHPRS).
According to a Mintel research released in December 2018, the number of OGM-Free food and beverages launched in Canada grew 366 percent between 2007 and 2017. And the “no additives/preservatives” claims rose 21%.
In addition, data from the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce reveal that the organic industry in the country corresponds to US $ 4.7 billion per year.
The survey by Mintel also revealed that 29 percent of Canadian consumers, or three in ten, said they bought more natural food and beverages in 2018 than in 2017.
For 71% of Canadians, natural and organic food and beverages account for only a fraction of the purchases, while for 26% these products make up more than a quarter of the list. And 33% of families with children allocate 1/3 of purchases for these items.
Blue Macaw products in Canadian stores
With an eye to the country’s concern to meet the population’s need for natural and GMO-free products, Blue Macaw Flora has found an opportunity in Canada to boost its business.
“Our açaí powder, for example, is exported to Canada. So we believe we can increase our efforts to reach more partner companies and, consequently, more consumers”, says Ana Tovazi, managing partner of Blue Macaw Flora.
And the performance of Blue Macaw Flora goes further, as its dried extracts and fruit powders also arrive in the North American country ready to replace the artificial ingredients and contribute to healthier food for the local population.
Blue Macaw Flora provides the inputs according to the needs of the client, adopting processes of high quality to ensure that the taste and the nutritional properties are properly preserved.
Partnership with the Brazil-Canadian Chamber of Commerce
Aware of this growth in the natural food market in Canada, Blue Macaw Flora wants to further expand its operations in the country.
For some time now, Blue Macaw Flora has helped to strengthen Canada’s natural food industry by exporting fruit powders, powder extracts and fruit bits in private label packaging.
This relationship was so positive that now the company of 100%-natural inputs began the year becoming an associate of the Chamber of Commerce Brazil-Canada (CCBC).
“Blue Macaw Flora was unanimously accepted by the BCCC Executive Committee. Through this partnership, we will have the opportunity to strengthen relationships, do business, increase our technical knowledge and our networking”, celebrates Ana Tovazi.
Canada is very concerned about the source, processing, and composition of food consumed by the local population, a behavior very similar to Blue Macaw Flora’s.
Since 2007, the Brazilian company has been extracting the best of the Brazilian flora in a sustainable way and transforming it into natural ingredients to make products that until then have used preservatives and colorings.
